PMBOK 7 — The 8 Performance Domains

A system of interacting groups of activities. They run concurrently throughout delivery — progress in one shifts the others. Tailor them to your context.

01

Stakeholders

Identify, understand and engage stakeholders; build productive working relationships.

02

Team

Build culture, shared ownership and leadership so the team performs and grows.

03

Development Approach & Life Cycle

Choose predictive, adaptive or hybrid; define phases that fit the deliverables.

04

Planning

Organise and coordinate the work — scope, schedule, cost, resources — progressively.

05

Project Work

Run processes, manage resources & procurement, and keep the team focused.

06

Delivery

Meet requirements, scope and quality to produce the intended outcomes & value.

07

Measurement

Assess performance & take action — useful metrics, leading indicators, dashboards.

08

Uncertainty

Navigate risk, ambiguity, complexity and volatility across the whole project.

How they connect

The eight domains are not phases and not sequential. Stakeholders and Team shape how everything else is done; Planning, Project Work and Delivery form the build–deliver core; Measurement and Uncertainty run continuously to keep the system on course. Guided by the 12 Principles and adjusted through tailoring, they together produce value.
